about

After a two-year hiatus, hip-hop trio 2U4U have returned with their new single “Oh My God!”, set for release on Thursday 1st October 2020 will be available to pre-order on iTunes on 27th September.

A refreshingly modern UK hip-hop interpretation with clear US influences, “Oh My God!” pays homage to elemental hip-hop whilst staying true to universal musicality. The song interpolates A Tribe Called Quest’s classic featuring Busta Rhymes whilst producing a fresh, hard-hitting and lyrically modern cut. Producer ATMA draws on his long-standing musical influences, blending sonically superb synths with vocal chops and crisp drums. His production perfectly complements MC My Rugema’s lyrical performance, which forgoes his usual autobiographical style for a more essential hip-hop flow, with clever wordplay, memorable one-liners and a rugged vocal intensity.

The Rugby-based collective’s 2018 EP “BUTTER” piqued the interest of music industry tastemakers and fans alike before the collective took a step back from releasing music to get inspired and focus on their live show for 2019. In September 2019, 2U4U's song “Kings of Africa (Tell Me)” was featured in Episode 2 of Netflix series TOP BOY Season 3 as exec. produced by Drake and LeBron James. Adding to their growing list of supporters that includes Phil Taggart (BBC Radio 1), Jamz Supernova (BBC Radio 1/1xtra), gal-dem on Reprezent Radio, XL Play (from XL Recordings), Dazed, Complex, Afropunk and more.

During lockdown, 2U4U spent their time releasing freestyles and were co-signed by UK hip-hop pioneer Kojey Radical as part of his #ImSoImSoProud Challenge and Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn for their #DreamFactoryChallenge which prompted feedback from Loyle Carner.

“Oh My God!” has been mixed by David Kennedy and mastered by Bob Power, Grammy Award-winning engineers both known for working on classic albums including D’Angelo’s “Brown Sugar” and A Tribe Called Quest's “The Love Movement” and “We Got it From Here...”

“Oh My God!” encapsulates decades of rap in its purest, most potent form – in a matter of minutes.

lyrics

Listen, uh, yeah
Listen, uh

Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God
Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God
Oh My God, Yes

Some people pass the time, I make time pass forward
3 IDs, 1 passport
Air Jordans on my feet, I seat cyphers on beats
Prime de-livery, your liver organs deported
Support it
End-less mystery, Mr. Paul, sad to see
Sister Fall, I’m in awe come the Autumn
Strive for more, if you’re sure, time piece so important
Thin wrists, short twists, it’s the form
Liquid Swords on the chorus
The chords on the streets, major seven, minor talking
C.R.E.A.M dreams, cash rules, catch fools, it’s a fortune
No deaths, just abortions
Pro-life, can’t hide my thoughts like sunlight in the Porsche
Top-dropped, I copped hot, paid with money I made in short order
I’m no author, but got more storage of stories, than Mother Earth has got water
The Ps are so broad, I feel nauseous
The skis that I bought, are so awesome
I’m a bro from the North, there’s no border
It’s a chore how you bore when you’re talking

Listen, uh
Yeah
Listen (yeah)

Put stories into poems, not Insta stories
Walk on water with the glorious and notorious
Bigger, better, more furious than Horus
The Forrest Gump, the chosen one, no Chedward Chump
See I, battled favela fellas, City of God
God of the city, Rugema, My, Lord Lord Lord
Law of the land, peep I, stand on my hands
Walk into the crux and over the cracks, it’s simply a fact
I’m more important than the bones in your back
Shades on, Man in Black, Rap Attack
New Marley Marl, the crew too
In the 90s, like FUBU
Jazzmatazzing, like Guru
One Nation, like Zulu
Roll the weed up, it’s 2U
Stroll the seed into new roots
Grow the trees, this is 4U, this is 4U

Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God
Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God
Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God
Oh My God, Yes

I’m gunning for, Chanel dreams
Materials might seem
Aesthetically pleasing
A passion so extreme
It brought Yeezy to his knees
He fired his own niece
Got a diamond Jesús piece
Encrusted in Belize
I always wondered why money was so funny
That people would straight weep
Work overtime all week
Spend all on a new lease
That’s mulla tied up
I should laundry my notes, like tie die, I ride high, my style’s nice
All the yutes from my town wanna be me
I’m intelligent, sexy
Futura that’s so Free, word to Frankie, it’s on me
Shook my hand in the front seat
Pen bleeding, my thumb week
Week-ending, I can’t sleep
My thoughts are just on 3
Hunnids, twenties and fifties
Swore I wouldn’t like sleeze
But it’s coming so easy
My Rugema, his own league
In Japan like I’m Yoshi,
You’re a stan, I am Messi
You’re a fan, I’m an artiste!

Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God
Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God

Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God
Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God

Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God
Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God

Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God, Yes
Oh My God!
